And a theme evolves, as it always naturally seems to: soulful songstresses! Fiona Apple is always one of my favorites for when I’m feeling especially feminine. She could croon me into tears or right into ‘the mood.’ And no matter what kind of woman you are, there’s something she’s written that you can relate to. She writes and expresses herself with such honesty and her emotions flow freely through her work - you can feel what she feels. This particular track, “Shadowboxer,” I feel fits hand in hand with the last Lana Del Rey track I posted. Enjoy!

I had recently embarked on my Lana Del Rey absolute love phase just before I lost my connection to the internet. I can’t say I’m a fan of her newest song, “National Anthem,” as catchy as the chorus may be. But this song really got me. I feel like everyone must have had one of these relationships - kind of super self-destructive but you just find yourself saying “Fuck It” the whole time (and yes, I do mean that in both senses of the expression.) For those of us who sometimes prefer to flirt with danger, here’s “Born To Die” by the lovely miss Lana Del Rey.

Alas, the return of the internet! I’m probably going to overpost vids today, what with my joyous youtube surfing, so here’s…as good a place to start as any. MIA’s got a new album scheduled to drop this summer - she’s under new management now, joining Jay-Z’s Roc Nation crew. I wore out Kala, so I look forward to seeing what’s in store with the slightly tweaked sound. I’ve gotta say I’m on the fence about this video, but it WAS a globally released pop single, so one can’t set the bar too high. :)

People walk around pushing back their debts, wearing paychecks like necklaces and bracelets, talking ‘bout nothing, not thinking ‘bout death, every little heartbeat, every little breath. People walk a tight rope on a razor’s edge, carrying their hurt like hatred and weapons. It could be a bomb, or a bullet, or a pen…a thought, or a word, or a sentence. Brett Dennen has remained one of my favorite artists since I found him a few years ago. He writes beautiful, simple songs about what he believes, and he’s honest. His voice lends itself perfectly to the effectiveness of his lyrics, and depending on the song he can make you smile or he can make you cry. This song says everything I feel when I think about the American attitude. We’ve been dumbed down and made complacent, and so we don’t care about anything outside of our own small bubble of a world. We tend to think everything revolves around us, or that somehow things that are unfair in the world don’t matter because we’ve been told it can’t be changed.

Clean and DJ Zegon) and five years in the making, N.A.S.A. is meant to remind us all that we are connected, through music and through art. This song, “Money” features David Byrne, Chuck D, Ras Congo, Seu Jorge, and Z-Trip. The video art is done by Shepard Fairey; a street artist turned designer, Fairey is responsible for the iconic Obama “Hope” campaign ad, and the OBEY clothing line.
